London Funeral Home

Our Services

The funeral directors at London Funeral Home and Cornersville Funeral Home understand your need of our services.  We strive to meet those needs in every way with honesty, dignity and confidence.  Our traditional services include funerals conducted in the funeral home chapel, church or other desired locations or graveside services.  We offer cremation as a form of disposition to ground burial after viewing or funeral services.  We also offer direct cremation, memorial services, and graveside services for the interment of the cremains.  You will find a wide range of cremation urns that are available for your needs.  We forward remains to another funeral home and receive remains from other funeral homes, making all of the arrangements for these transfers with you only making one call to us and giving us the direction you want us to take for you.

You will find that we take great pride in our facilities, vehicles and cemetery equipment with all being well maintained.  Our staff open, close and service our graves.  We also provide for your monument needs, with our cemetery staff setting the monuments in the cemetery.  Our monument equipment is capable of handling the largest of monuments with great care.  We offer preneed as well as atneed services.  When funeral arrangements are selected and paid in advance at todays prices there will never be any extra money to be paid at the time of need as long as the contract is not changed.  If there is an item you purchase at the time of need that item constitutes the only extra fee you will incur.

Pre-arranging a funeral is very responsible and relieves the family of these decisions at a very stressful time.  Call or come by the funeral home during our business hours to complete the prearrangement or set up an appointment and we will gladly come to your home to make these arrangements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Embalming A State Law?

No and embalming is not required. However, embalming is necessary for certain arrangements such as traditional viewing and funeral service. Direct cremation and immediate burial may not require embalming.

Who Makes The Call To The Funeral Home When Death Occurs Locally or Out of Town?

Usually a staff member of the hospital, nursing home or hospice nurse will contact the funeral home. The funeral director will then start the process of making the funeral arrangements with the family.

What will you need to bring to the funeral home when making funeral arrangements?

Any vital statistics, social security number, birth certificate, insurance papers, veterans information and cemetery deed are all helpful. Any personal clothing you wish to use.

How long does it take to receive a certified death certificate?

If the death occurs locally, we usually can have death certificates for you by the time funeral services are completed. If death occurs out of town usually it takes a week to ten days.

What is the amount paid from Social Security for funeral expenses?

A death benefit of $255.00 is paid directly to a surviving spouse or dependent child. No death benefit is paid for a person that is single at the time of death. The funeral home files a Statement of Death Form SSA-721 to the Social Security Administration on each person at the time of death. The local phone number for social Security is 931-381-5832 or 1-800-772-1213 for general information.

Are all caskets waterproof?

No. All of the hardwood caskets are not waterproof. A vault is an outside container that is waterproof by an air seal or top seal. A concrete box or metal grave liner are other outside containers that are not waterproof.

Can visitation and funeral service be held if cremation is chosen?

Yes. Cremation is an alternative to ground burial and, therefore, the same services may be conducted. Memorial services may be held with or without the cremains present.

Is the charge for opening and closing the grave included in the cost of the funeral?

Yes. The charge will appear under the cash advances section of the statement. Cash advance charges are for services, such as clergy honorarium, hairdresser, date cutting on monument and certified death certificates that are included in the statement of goods and services as a convenience to the family.
