It was 46 years ago today that my mother and I left Paris, Texas in the cab of UHaul truck. The following morning, August 18th, 1973 we arrived at 104 Johnson Ave, Apt 1. Apartments owned by Mr and Mrs Hartie Lee Coble. Alice came over that day and invited us to church. It was the day that Alice became a most trusted friend. Alice took me under her wings and showed me the ropes of Centerville life: church, library, the pool and school. We walked many places. I was a few weeks shy of my 13th birthday and not yet 16. Church activities like retreats at Camp Meriba, Gatlinburg between Christmas and New year's at least once. Maybe twice. Mission trip to Milligeville , GA.
Going to the pool. Laying out in her yard to sun. Young and the restless on TV. Back in the day when it was a 30 minute black and white Soap. And Girl Scouts.
Alice was a gentle and caring person. I was blessed to have been gifted her as my first Tennessee friend.
Much love to the family
