Obituary for Alvie Baxter Morgan Jr.

Alvie "Big Al" Morgan. Jr, 66, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, April 11, 2023, in Lewisburg, Tennessee.

He was born on August 11, 1956, to the late Alvie Baxter and Mary Clara (Todtenbier) Morgan in Glasgow, KY. He was in the first graduating class from Barren County High School and served on the committee to choose the school colors and mascot. Being an avid Washington Redskins fan and a persuasive person, it ís not surprising that BCHS adopted the same colors, burgundy and gold.

After high school, Alvie served briefly in the Air Force and afterwards began working for the City of Glasgow, KY, in a career that would span 42 years. He eventually became manager of the regional landfill which serves 16 counties. After surviving a stroke in 2017, Alvie retired and moved behind his brother, Mike Morgan, in Lewisburg, TN, where he lived until his death.

In addition to his mother, Mary Tucker (Sid), he is survived by his brothers, Mike Morgan (Leslie) of Lewisburg, TN, Steve Higgins (Janet) of Chattanooga, TN, and Craig Higgins of Mountain Home, Idaho; nephews Stephen Higgins and Bryan Higgins (Hannah) all of Chattanooga, and grand nephew, Luke Higgins.

Alvie was predeceased by his biological father, Alvie Morgan, Sr. and his dad, Arthur "Art" Higgins.

Alvie loved golfing with his Dad, but lost interest in golf after his Dad's death in 1990. Big Al also loved league bowling and earned several rings for bowling perfect games. He was a fan of UK Basketball and enjoyed watching the games with family and friends. Other hobbies included collecting pocket knives and cigarette lighters. In his later years, he enjoyed giving treats to his brother's pack of Dachshunds and dining out with family, especially on slaw burgers or king crab legs.

His final wish for those that love him was "Please don't let me vote democrat after I die." Alvie was truly one of a kind. He will never be forgotten, but forever remembered and missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

The family is honoring Alvie's wish to be cremated. A private memorial service will be held for family and close friends.
