Obituary for BARBARA ANN MORGAN (CUNNINGHAM)

Barbara Ann Cunningham Morgan, of Lewisburg, passed away Sunday, December 22nd at NHC Lewisburg.
She was born January 14, 1933, in Memphis, Tennessee, and was the daughter of the late Doak Laurence Cunningham, and Laverne Summers Cunningham. She graduated from Nicholas Blackwell High School in Bartlett, Tennessee. After receiving her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the UT Center for Health Sciences in Memphis in 1955, she moved to Lewisburg and worked at Gordon’s Hospital.
After her marriage to William “Bill” Morgan in March 1956, she went to work for Marshall County Health Department, where she worked as a public health and home health care nurse. In 1974, she transferred to the South Central Regional Health Office as Nursing Supervisor. In 1981, she went to work as Nursing Consultant in the division of Home Health Care for the State of Tennessee and Assistant to the Director of Public Health. She received her Master’s degree in Public Administration in 1984, and served as Acting Director of Nursing for the Tennessee Department of Health and Environment before her retirement in 1988. Active in the Tennessee Public Health Association – Nursing Division, she helped to establish the Barbara C. Morgan Scholarship Fund.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Marshall County Historical Society. After her retirement, she enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends, affectionally known as the “Golden Ponders”, and caring for her husband, children, and grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William David Leo Morgan who passed away in August 2013; a sister, Betty Barton; and two brothers, John and Jacob Cunningham. She is survived by brother, David (Marilyn) Cunningham of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; daughters, Mary Alice Ingram and Laura Ann Morgan of Lewisburg; sons, Bill Morgan of South Lyon, Michigan; and John (Kim) Morgan of Cookeville Tennessee; grandchildren, Clyde (Stephanie) Ingram, III, of Gallatin, TN, Laura (Brent) Skinner of Eagleville, TN, Nichole (Noah) Repasky, Lauren Morgan, and Kelli (Cody) Whittaker of Cookeville, TN; and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be Friday, December 27th beginning at 11:00 am with funeral services at 1:00 pm at First United Methodist Church in Lewisburg, TN
