Obituary for David Griffin Cook

David Griffin Cook, age 78, passed away at his Lewisburg residence on Monday, April 13th,
2020 surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He was born on March 29th,1942 in Camden, Arkansas to Frank Griffin Cook and Elizabeth Claire Collins. David was a 1960 graduate of Marshall County High School in Lewisburg, TN and a 1964 business graduate of David Lipscomb University in Nashville. He married Marian Patricia “Pat” Parker in 1963. They were together 56 years until her death in 2019. He also served in the Air National Guard and was an honor graduate of the U.S. Army Cook School. He eventually took over Griffin Cook and Sons Supply, his father’s plumbing and electrical supply store, and continued to work there daily until a month before his passing. He was a revered businessman in the Lewisburg and Marshall County communities and served faithfully as an elder at Westvue Church of Christ for over 40 years. He loved working at his store (aka “the shop”), sports, especially University of Tennessee football, watching The Andy Griffith Show, sitting in his rocking chair on the front porch, and spending time with his daughter Alison’s dog Potter, who he lovingly referred to as his “little buddy.”

He was preceded in death by his parents Griffin and Claire Cook, and wife Pat Cook. He is survived by three children: daughters Susan Elaine Cook Ragsdale (Richard) of Petersburg, Alison Patricia Cook of Lewisburg,and son Brian David Cook (Julie) fo Lewisburg. One sister Jane George (Joe), two brothers Billy Cook (Ruth) and Frank Cook all of Lewisburg. Four grandchildren: Grant David Cook (fianceé Kalel Hopwood), Gabriel Knight Cook, Ella Claire Ragsdale, and John Noah Ragsdale.

Pallbearers are Joe George, Tony Matthews, Tres Beasley, Dwayne Hart, Danny Morgan, and Frank Musgrave. Honorary Pallbearers are Mike Whitehead, Ed Anderson, Tony Cross, Michael Sullivan, Benton Thompson, Tony Williams, and their wives.

Private family viewing will be Wednesday, April 15th at London Funeral Home. Graveside services for family members only will follow at Lone Oak Cemetery in Lewisburg with Mike Whitehead and Rick Rolin officiating. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a public memorial service will be held at a later date at Westvue Church of Christ.
