Obituary for James William Watkins Jr.
James William Watkins Jr., age 95, of Smyrna, formerly of Lewisburg, died Thursday, January 13th, 2022 at Diversicare of Smyrna.
He was a native of Lafayette, Georgia, the son of the late James William Sr. and Lillie Long Watkins. He was a retired pulpit minister for Church Street Church of Christ, and was an evangelist of "Preaching the Gospel" shown on Gospel Broadcasting Network. He also served his country during WWII in the Navy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Foye Watkins in 2018, and sisters, Annie Maude Simpson, Mary Frances Davis, and Ophelia Gayler.
He is survived by two sons, James W. "Bill" Watkins, III of Nashville, and Alan Watkins of Decatur, Alabama, two daughters, Teresa Mansfield of Smyrna, and Hope Koehler of Morgantown, West Virginia, brother, Fred Watkins of Griffin, GA, , thirteen grandchildren, twenty seven great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, January 17th, 2022 at 2:00 pm from the chapel of London Funeral Home and Crematory 324 W. Church St Lewisburg, Tn 37091 with burial to follow in Lone Oak Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will begin on Monday, January 17th, 2022 from 11:00 am until the funeral hour.
