Kathleen (“Tina”) Hill Montgomery, age 98, of Lewisburg, TN, died Wednesday, March 4th,
2020, at Williamson Medical Center in Franklin.
Tina was born in LaVergne, TN, in Rutherford County, the daughter of the late Thomas Hill
and Kathleen Charlton Hill. She was a retired teacher with the Marshall County School
System and a member of Church St. Church of Christ, where she taught the 2-year-olds for
many years.
Tina was a graduate of Smyrna High School and received her Bachelor of Science degree
from Middle Tennessee State College (now University) in 1943. After teaching a few years in
Dalton, Georgia, she returned to Tennessee to teach science and math at Marshall County
High School, where she became respected as a “tough but fair” teacher who always wanted
the best for her students and their futures. After marrying Thomas Montgomery, she
dedicated her life to their farm and community life together. She devoted her heart to all
children, and especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Thomas N.
Montgomery, Sr., by her brother, Tom Hill, and by her two sisters, Mary Hill Latané and
Margaret Hill Latané.
She is survived by her daughter, Sarah “Sally” (Tim) Lavender of Smyrna, TN, by her two
sons, Thomas (Sherrie) Montgomery, Jr., of Morristown, TN, and Robert (Emma) Montgomery
of Lewisburg, TN, by two brothers, John R. Hill of Lewisburg and Francis L. Hill of
Murfreesboro, TN, by eight grandchildren, and by nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation with the family will be on Friday, March 6th, from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Burial will
be a private family service at Palmetto Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ronald McDonald House of Nashville.
