Obituary for Mary Elizabeth McKenzie (Cromartie)

Mary Elizabeth Cromartie McKenzie was born to older, doting parents on October 1, 1929 at Mooresville, TN but spent her early life in Tallahassee, FL. before moving “back home” to the Berlin Community with her husband and daughters. An only child, she was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Elizabeth Ratcliffe Cromartie, and father, Eugene Tennent Cromartie. She survived the passing of her husband, Troy B. McKenzie, by 28 years. Survivors include daughters, Carol (Doug) Williams and Gina McKenzie and three cousins she was especially close to, Jim, Betty and Larry.

Mary was a long time member of the Berlin United Methodist Church where she served in various positions, but most importantly as an inspiration for other members. Her presence will be missed. She was active in the local chapter of the American Legion, the Blinded Veterans Association Auxiliary and loved her work as a volunteer, “blue lady” at Marshall Medical.

Just shy of her 90th birthday, Mary passed into God’s glory on August 3, 2019. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 pm on Thursday August 8, 2019 at London Funeral Home and Crematory, 324 West Church Street, Lewisburg, Tennessee 37091. Funeral services will be at London Funeral Home at 10:00 am on Friday, with the Reverend Timothy Holton presiding. Burial will follow in Frank Ownby Cemetery, Highway 431 in the Berlin Community.

Donations can be made to Berlin United Methodist Church c/o 1686 Franklin Pike, Lewisburg, TN 37091 or Frank Ownby Cemetery c/o 1341 John Lunn Rd, Lewisburg, TN 37091.
