Obituary for Melvin Sidney Sugg

Melvin Sydney Sugg, age 83, formerly of Lewisburg passed away November 17, 2020 in Burton, Ohio.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, John C. and Emma (Fowler) Sugg, his sisters, Ida Byers, Margaret Hunt, Ruth Pruitt, and Helen Sugg, his brothers, William "Buddy" Sugg, Thomas Sugg, and Edward Sugg and his wife, Beverly Diane (Watson) Sugg.

Melvin leaves behind his daughter Stephanie, son-in-law Skip Bowman, and grandchildren Nathan and Courtney Bowman, all of Cleveland, Ohio, and a sister Doris Rutledge, of Belvidere, TN.

Melvin was born in Hazel Green, Alabama, and spent his childhood in the Elk Cotton Mill Village in Fayetteville, TN.

Melvin married the love of his life, Beverly Diane Watson, on November 7, 1959, and joined the Army soon after. He wa stationed at the Presidio in San Francisco, CA where he served as a Military Police, and had his only child, Stephanie.

Melvin loved to drive. After his military service, he was a long distance truck driver and a bus driver before becoming a truck driver for Heil Quaker in Lewisburg, where he had many long lasting
friendships with his coworkers,

Melvin was brought to the Lord by his friend Bill Swindell while living in Fayetteville. Melvin became a member of Liberty Church of Christ, where he drove a church bus into the underserved areas of
Fayetteville, bringing youngsters to church,

After losing Beverly to cancer in 2009, Melvin relocated to Burton, Ohio, where he could be close to his daughter and her family. He was extremely proud of his grandchildren, and was a constant fixture
courtside for Courtney's volleyball games. He made many friends courtside with the high school, club, and college volleyball communities.

He was also a great neighbor, who willingly helped anyone on his street that he could. He was especially helpful in helping neighbors with yard work, and has been described as "the best neighbor I could
have ever had."

He was loved by many, and will be missed by all who had the opportunity to know him.

His family is eternally grateful for the love and dedication that he gave us.

Graveside services will be held on Sunday, November 22, 2020 at 2:00pm in the Talley Cemetery at Cane Creek with burial to follow.
